A match made in motoring heaven, the Mercedes and Maybach brands have added more beef and practicality to their celebrated sedan to create the S900 Pullman Guard. Similar in stature to its non-armoured counterpart, the bulletproof car features a specialised steel sandwiched between the sheet metal and the body structure, offering superb protection and peace of mind for all passengers.
But it doesn't stop there. Underbody armour plates are placed systematically to boost the sedan's bulletproof credentials, and overlapping panels provide unbeatable ballistic protection. The bulletproof glass is treated to polycarbonate coating, stopping dangerous splintering, and the back windows are hydraulically operated.
The interior is as luxurious as you'd expect, with a long list of customisation options for those lucky enough to be buying. And when it comes to power, the engine bay is kitted out with a twin-turbocharged 6.0L V12 engine to deliver an exhilarating 530 horsepower. When it comes to performance, the added weight of the armour is bound to have a slight effect on performance, though just how much remains to be confirmed. However, for safety reasons, the top speed of the vehicle is electronically limited to 100mph anyway.
All this and more makes the S600 Pullman Guard high up on everyone's wishlist. But as with anything truly groundbreaking, the new design comes at a price. A price which starts at around €1.4 million, to be more precise.
If you're keen to secure your very own slice of car manufacturing heaven, the new Guard is likely to be out of reach just for the minute.
